AUTOMATIC POWER FACTOR CORRECTION
APFC stands for Automatic Power Factor Correction. It refers to a system or device used in electrical power systems to automatically improve and maintain the power factor at an optimal level, typically near unity (1.0), by adding or removing capacitive or inductive reactance as needed.
Applications of APFC:
- Industrial Plants: large motors and machinery are used, and power factor correction is critical for operational efficiency and cost savings.
- Data Centers: Where continuous operation of electrical systems is required, and power factor correction helps in stabilizing voltage and reducing energy costs.
- Commercial Buildings: Large buildings with significant HVAC or elevator systems that can benefit from power factor correction to lower energy costs.
- HVAC Systems: Air conditioning systems, which are typically inductive loads, can benefit significantly from power factor correction.
